This is the best “gold” amp I have ever heard period!! :) Ok so it’s the only gold amp I have ever had period but getting past the sheer ‘goldness’ of my review unit (I think it shines all by itself at night but can’t be sure) I have to admit my impression of the Picollo DAC has been largely positive with one or two concerns. The DAC is the biggest weakness in the chain with its lack of future proofing over any possibility Android might switch to 24 bit resolutions at some later stage. Remember this is a $150 upgrade on the discrete amp version and a move to opamps also. Some will see that as an odd move by Cypher Labs given the fantastic quality of the DAC they used in the Theorem 720 and SOLO -db. FiiO and Cayin are throwing in power banks and 24 bit DAC’s for a third of the price so there is a value proposition there that still need to be sold hard to prospective buyer before they will bite.

Thankfully the stellar build quality, excellent battery life and more than satisfactory amp and pleasing tonality of the Picollo DAC should allow it to pass the demo test for most discerning audiophiles with relative ease. It’s a delightfully musical sounding amp with a great mid section and that flexibility for IEM matching is very welcome indeed. Some might blether on a bit about the lack of upper extension and air and space and at times this weighed on my mind but the vocal performance was just so top tappingly good that I was prepared to overlook that on most occasions especially with female vocals.
