Synergy
Efficiency
With an impedance of 13.8Ω and a sensitivity of 124 dB/Vrms at 1kHz, the TRUTHEAR PURE is very easy to drive. Phones, laptops, and small dongles push it to loud listening levels without needing extra gain.
Its high sensitivity can reveal background hiss on noisier outputs, so cleaner sources work best. Volume sits low on most devices, and the PURE reaches comfortable levels quickly.
At lower volumes, the bass and dynamics feel softer, maintaining a polite presentation. Moving into moderate to higher levels brings more energy and grip, making the tuning feel more complete.
The included 3.5mm single-ended connection is sufficient and does not limit performance. The PURE does not require any balanced 4.4mm connections to get optimal sound.
Pairings
Running the TRUTHEAR PURE straight from a phone delivers its warm and smooth tonality without much change. The presentation stays consistent, though the lack of extra drive makes the stage feel somewhat narrower.
The FiiO JA11 dongle adds a slight lift in clarity, particularly in the treble, where cymbals and percussion gain a little more presence. While still relaxed, the added definition gives the overall sound a cleaner edge.
With the Heartfield R1, the PURE gains a touch more liveliness in its dynamics, bringing better punch to bass hits and more weight to vocals. Even so, the tuning’s smooth character remains dominant and never tips into harshness.
The Colorfly CDA-M2 achieves optimal synergy, opening up the stage slightly and enhancing the separation between instruments. Details come through more naturally here, giving the PURE a modest but welcome sense of refinement.

MOONDROP RAYS
Technical
The MOONDROP RAYS uses a hybrid setup that combines a 10mm sapphire-plated dynamic driver for the bass and mids with a 6mm annular planar magnetic driver for the treble.
A dual crossover system manages the transition, ensuring each driver focuses on its dedicated range without overlap.
The sapphire diaphragm improves control and timbre, while the planar driver gives the highs a smoother and more extended character. Together, this pairing aims to deliver a clean and coherent sound that blends weight with detail.
Design
The RAYS stand out with a glossy, mirror-finished metal faceplate that shifts colors under light, from violet to green, cyan, or pink. One side is plain while the other has etched lines resembling rays, reinforcing its bold styling.
The translucent dark green resin shell reveals the internals and provides a secure, ergonomic fit. A recessed 0.78mm 2-pin connector, vent placement, and a nozzle with a proper lip all add to the functional yet stylish execution.
Performance
The TRUTHEAR PURE immediately makes its presence felt with fuller bass impact that hits harder and digs deeper. In comparison, the MOONDROP RAYS keeps things tight and controlled, but doesn’t offer the same level of weight or physicality.
Where vocals and instruments come alive is on the Pure, thanks to its more convincing timbre and natural note body. The RAYS sounds leaner here, giving clarity but losing out on warmth and realism when placed side by side.
Detail shifts in favor of the RAYS once the treble takes focus, offering greater openness and sparkle at the top end. The PURE stays smoother and easier on the ear, but it cannot match the Rays in sheer resolution or airiness.
Layering and separation are also handled with more finesse on the RAYS, keeping complex mixes well defined and instruments distinctly outlined. The PURE remains coherent, but its presentation is less refined when tracks become dense.
In terms of immersion, the RAYS delivers a soundstage that stretches wider and deeper with better imaging. The PURE plays things more closed off and in-head, where it simply doesn’t offer the same experience or precision.
DUNU KIMA 2
Technical
The DUNU KIMA 2 uses a next-generation DLC composite dome diaphragm dynamic driver paired with a dual-cavity acoustic structure.
This combination improves tonal balance, bass control, and midrange accuracy while reducing resonance for a cleaner presentation.
Its high magnetic flux circuit, adapted from the Falcon Ultra, enhances driver efficiency for precision and speed. With Dunu’s refined VERNUS target tuning and added dampening materials, the KIMA 2 achieves a balanced sound that emphasizes clarity and responsiveness.
Design
The KIMA 2 adopts a geometric, minimalist design with sharp but ergonomic lines that balance elegance and comfort. Its brushed metallic finish with an elevated gold nozzle provides a premium aesthetic, while subtle engravings keep branding clean and professional.
A limited emerald, green edition adds a shimmering, reflective appeal that further elevates its look. Despite its angular edges, the shell is compact and carefully angled to avoid discomfort during regular use.
Performance
The TRUTHEAR PURE makes its presence felt in the bass with a stronger punch and fuller body. It carries more impact and authority, giving a weightier and more satisfying low end than the DUNU KIMA 2.
Midrange is where the KIMA 2 takes the edge, sounding more natural and convincing in timbre. Vocals in particular feel lifelike and effortless, while the PURE can come across as slightly more forward but less organic.
Treble is handled better by the Pure, offering more sparkle and energy without sounding overly sharp. The KIMA 2 plays it safer, presenting a smoother top end that trades detail for comfort.
Resolution is evenly matched between the two, as both manage to pull out fine nuances with a good sense of refinement. Instruments stay well separated and controlled, leaving little to criticize in this aspect.
Staging also remains on equal footing, delivering a respectable sense of width and depth without breaking new ground. Both IEMs maintain solid layering and imaging, but neither pushes beyond a competent presentation.
My Verdict
The TRUTHEAR PURE stands out as a warm IEM that delivers a lush and natural midrange, paired with bass that stays clean without ever becoming overbearing.
Its treble remains smooth and non-fatiguing, giving it a presentation that can be listened to for hours with ease.
It comes across as an IEM that embraces warmth with confidence, carrying strong midrange presence while keeping everything else in balance.
The resulting sound is inviting and musical, making the PURE an excellent choice for a natural and easygoing listening experience.
