Chord Electronics’ ground-breaking Hugo 2 DAC/headphone amplifier has won Europe’s most prestigious DAC award: EISA DAC 2018/19.
The award from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) reflects the pooled experience of EISA’s expert magazines in Europe, the USA, Canada, India, Hong Kong/China, Japan, and Australia, and acknowledges Hugo 2’s long-established position as the world’s most advanced transportable DAC and the international class-leader.
Commenting on the definitive EISA DAC 2018/19 award, Matthew Bartlett, Chord Electronics’ Manufacturing Director said, “I’m delighted that EISA’s expert judging panel has once again recognized the technical and sonic superiority of Chord Electronics’ DAC designs.
Our pioneering long-term use of powerful, programmable FPGA chipsets, custom-coded by our Digital Design Consultant, Rob Watts, has given our DACs a significant and time-proven advantage over competitor products, the overwhelming majority of which use inferior mass-produced and bog-standard chips.
“We were thrilled to win EISA’s European USB DAC/headphone amplifier 2016-2017 award for our Mojo DAC/headphone amp and it is wonderful that the judges have, for a second time, acknowledged the benefits of our proprietary DAC technology, and our commitment to UK design, engineering and manufacturing.”

Chord Electronics Hugo 2
Chord’s original battery-powered DAC/headphone amplifier was a hard act to follow, but the new Hugo 2 is a giant leap forward. Inside its ultra-modern aluminum case is a custom-coded digital converter and filter that sounds like nothing else around.
Comfortably able to see off any conventional DAC at its price, it’s astounding for a compact music machine, with a vibrant and rhythmic sound.
Whether with a standard CD, or a hi-res PCM, or a DSD track, music comes packed with energy and emotion. The Hugo 2 runs for 14 hours from its rechargeable battery, and plays practically every format around, including switchable filters and a uniquely colorful control interface that makes using it fun.
